Best Solo Comedy (New York City Fringe Festival)

Navigating adolescence in painfully hilarious and brutally honest stories of growing up that will have you double over in laughter and warm your heart.

First kisses, weird hairs, the cool group. The teenage life was a challenge for everyone. Hailed as a “dynamic heartfelt storyteller” Kevin James Doyle shares awkward, gut-busting, and harrowing moments from his personal diaries that will make you thankful never to go back to that age… and surprised to realize we all actually made it out okay. Featured at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the 2019 Frigid Festival NYC.

“★★★★ Doyle digs deep into his past to rake up memories he presumably once tried to suppress… a truly relatable laugh-out-loud hour of stand-up.” —Broadway Baby

My First Love, Anna

In January 2019 after I filmed my first comedy special, The 30 Year Old Virgin, I immediately started work on my next show. I had found a journal that I kept when I was a kid and read from it on the live show and podcast, Mortified.

I had a lot of other material from that era that I wanted to explore, so I submitted a proposal to the New York City Fringe Festival. It opened at the IATI Theater in New York City on February 22, 2019 and went on to win “Best Solo Comedy” at the Festival.

High School Theater Camp

I took the show on tour in Summer 2019 and then it premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival at Bar 50 where it played daily from August 1-25, 2019. The venue was in an outdoor tent, so it was bright and sunny on some afternoons and when it rained it was a little wet. But it was a perfect home for this show with a good crowd every day.

When I returned to America, I took the show on a tour in Fall 2019 to Nashville, Columbus, Akron, Pittsburgh, Nashville, Los Angeles, and New York City. But when the pandemic began in early 2020, right as I was gearing up to film it as a comedy special, I had to put the project aside.

No Hair Days

In 2021, I was cast in a film called “Night Cafe” written and directed by Joshua Nowak. We were chatting on the set about the show and how I never got a chance to film “Loud Blond Bald Kid” and he offered to direct it. So I revived the show three years after it premiered with a little name change. “Diary of a Bald Kid” was filmed in 2022 at the Rumba Cafe in Columbus, Ohio with the set designed as a replica of my childhood bedroom.
