A jaw-dropping story of love, risk, reward, theater history, motorcycles, green cards, and a $15,000 loan.

What are the steps we take to insulate ourselves from risk in life? Beyond safety lies adventure but with adventure comes danger. Falling in love in New York City and riding a motorcycle are both risk filled endeavors. Doyle ties two completely different but somehow parallel narratives together for a story full of hilarious jokes and heartfelt anecdotes. What begins as a whirlwind, romcom-esque romance with a woman during Christmas in New York, transforms into a tragic, unforgettable conclusion.

Filmed live at New York City's Soho Playhouse after an Off-Broadway run in May 2022.

Winter in Paris

In November 2022, I moved to Paris for three months. I had just finished filming my latest comedy special, “Diary of a Bald Kid,” and was eager to mix things up and write. So I took the opportunity to drain my savings account and live a writer's dream of living in Paris.

One day I walked past Au Chat Noir Oberkampf in the 11th arrondissement and there was a framed sign that said “Stand-up Comedy in English.” I went in to get a drink and watch a show. As it turned out, the host was sitting at the bar, a comedian named Luke Charles. He asked how I heard about the show and I told him I was a comic from New York City. He graciously offered me a 10 minute spot.

Spring in Singapore

From there I met many other wonderful people in the Paris comedy scene. Terrence Wong, who produces many shows in Paris, helped put together a show on the final night in Paris. It gave me a goal of working on new material. I wasn't sure what the show would turn into, so I called it “Bohemian Humor.” It was a sold-out show and all the wonderful people I met in Paris all came to the show and many more I didn't know.

A few weeks later in Singapore for work, I met Colin Christopher and Jacky Ng, two very funny, very helpful comics who know everyone in the local comedy scene. They invited me along to their shows in theaters, comedy clubs, and flower shops. On my final night in Singapore, I did a version of this new show, now named “Fool Proof,” in a recording studio with Jacky and Colin opening for me.

Summer in New York

Back in New York, I filmed four shows Off-Broadway at Soho Playhouse in May 2022. It is the loosest and most creative I have ever felt on stage and the most creative risks I have ever taken. Filming something so early in the creative process was a thrill and scary, but what came out of it is unique and a wonderful memory.
