Best Original Script (New York Fringe Festival)

Closed Circuit is a new play directed by Mary Chieffo. Written by and starring Kevin James Doyle, Aaron Long, and Remi Moses. Two brothers and their sister-in-law recount the loss of a family member, months after an accident. Told in interlocking monologues, this dark comedy explores local business, the opioid crisis, and the idea that sometimes you can choose your family.

I have always wanted to be a dramatic playwright. If only I had the talent of Eugene O'Neil or Arthur Miller, but instead I’m a clown on stage. After filming my first comedy special, “The 30 Year Old Virgin,” I was working on my next show, “Loud Blond Bald Kid,” and decided to attempt to write a serious play.

I got together with my friend Aaron Long, a great actor and writer in his own right, and we began to develop a story. We met at a cafe for weeks and worked out the characters, scenes, and monologues, and then presented our work to each other. Then we brought on Mary Chieffo to direct the play.

“Closed Circuit” opened at the New York City Fringe Festival in February 2020 and won “Best Original Script.”
